Redwood Falls, MN – Back to Redwood Falls after a long break and the Warriors were back on the mat grappling in a triangular dual meet against the mighty Redwood Valley Cardinals and the Minneota Vikings Tuesday, January 7th. The first dual of the night was against the Minneota Vikings and the Warriors fell with a score of 65-9. The Warriors fell again in the second dual to the Redwood Valley Cardinals 72-12.
It all started with the junior varsity with one particular prospect, Kenzie Granum who wrestled Harley Raney another female wrestler from the Cardinals. This match was an oddity because you rarely see female wrestlers and its even more rare that they get to wrestle each other. Kenzie wrestled hard and showed her power as she took Raney to the mat for the first takedown and stayed on top but couldn’t finish Harley off and into the second period we went. Harley was more prepared and pressured Kenzie to make a mistake and pulled Kenzie to the mat where she would eventually turn and pin Kenzie. Even though it ended in a loss I was a great match to witness.
Koyer Wendorff in his match against Lane Evans took Lane in a single leg and brought him to the mat. Koyer wasn’t able to hang on though as Lane got the escape point and would take Koyer down get a deep half and pin Koyer. Koyer being a senior on this wrestling team is showing his skill on the mat and is starting to produce some points hopefully we’ll get to see some wins from him this season.
