1963 – Todd Michael Appel – 2019

Todd Appel, the son of Donald and Geraldine (Carlson) Appel, was born on October 9, 1963, in Slayton, Minnesota. He grew up on a farm east of Fulda, Minnesota and attended school in Fulda, graduating from the Fulda High School in 1982. Todd obtained his pilot’s license at the age of 17 and had a love of airplanes and flying. After high school, Todd entered the U.S. Army where he specialized in diesel engine and tank repair. He was stationed in Germany before his honorable discharge in 1986. Todd returned to Fulda and lived on the family farm. He worked various jobs over the years specializing in metal fabrication. In 2008 he moved to Little Rock, Iowa where he made his home. Todd passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 10, 2019, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 56. Todd’s special interests were his classic cars, watching the Minnesota Vikings and socializing with his friends.

Survivors include his two brothers: Terry (Margie Clark) Appel, Fulda, MN and Tom (Mary) Appel, Fulda, MN; six nieces and nephews: Jason, Lindsey, Matthew, Andrew, Bennett, and Kameryn Appel; special friend Jody Rindflesch, Little Rock, IA and two aunts: Mary Ann DeMay, St. Paul, MN, and Janice Ramert, Lennox, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew Michael John Appel. 

Funeral services were held at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church Fulda, MN at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2019, with Msgr. R. Paul Heiting officiating. The organist was Mary Ann Boom. The song leader was Sheila Crowley. Interment at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery Fulda, MN. Military honors provided by the Fulda American Legion Post 318 and VFW Post 9017.
