1929 – Tena Swan – 2017

         Tena Swan was born on April 8, 1929 on the family farm south of Rushmore, Minnesota to Tena and John Jacobs Haken.  She was baptized in the Presbyterian Faith.  In 1941 the family moved to a farm near Slayton, MN where Tena graduated from Slayton High School in 1948.  On December 27, 1950 she and Louie Swan were married at her parent’s home.  Following their marriage they made their home on a farm north of Hadley, MN that Louie purchased before their marriage.  They retired in 1984 and in 1999 moved to Hadley.  Louis passed away on May 5, 2002.  Tena remained in Hadley until 2011 when she moved to Lindenwood Assisted Living in Slayton.  In 2012 Tena became a resident of the Slayton Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.  Due to failing health Tena moved to Our House Hospice Home in Slayton in November 2017 and passed away there on Friday, December 29, 2017 at the age of 88.  She was a member of the Hadley Lutheran Church in Hadley where she was served as mission leader, circle leader, and Sunday school teacher.  Tena also was a member of the Lowville Birthday Club and the Merry Mixers Extension Club.  Tena enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, quilting, and riding motorcycle.

Survivors include her two son and their spouses, Gordon and Joanne Swan and Richard and Sandra Swan all of Hadley, MN, four grandchildren, Michael and Suzie Swan, Kristina Swan, Jennifer and Matt Guettler and Matthew Webb and Jenny Conser, three great-grandchildren, Rylee Swan, Fiona Guettler, and Aryssa Conser, one brother, Bill Haken of Worthington, MN, two sisters-in-law, Joy Swan of Hadley, MN and Esther of Slayton, MN and several nieces and nephews and their families.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Louie, ten siblings, and their spouses, Marvin and Jesse Haken, Dick and Annie Haken, George and Minnie Haken, Gertie and Ted Bruns, John Haken, Henry Haken, Arend Haken, Garrit and Blanch Haken, Tony and Joyce Haken, and Hugo and Dorothy Haken, two half brothers, Ben Haken and Meno Haken and his wife, Johanna, one sister-in-law, Betty Haken and two brothers-in-law, Arvid and Marvin Swan.

Funeral Services will be held at Totzke Funeral Chapel in Slayton on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with Robert Ossefoort officiating.  The pallbearers are Michael Swan, Matthew Webb, Branch Haken, Bruce Haken, Carl Mitchell and Eric Dahlgren.  Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens in Slayton, MN.

Visitation was on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at the Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton from 4-6 p.m. and also one hour prior to the services at the Totzke Funeral Home on Wednesday.  To send condolences visit totzkefuneralhome.com
