1940 – Russell Atwood – 2019

   Russell Clair Atwood was born in Slayton, Minnesota on January 23, 1940 to Russell and Lucille (Willford) Atwood. Russell grew up along side of his three siblings Alois, Shirley and Robert on their family farm just outside of Slayton in Murray County. Russell was baptized at the First Presbyterian Church in Slayton and attended school in Slayton. Russell met Trionne “Terri” Noethe soon after high school and the two were married on February 17, 1961. Russell and Terri made their home in Slayton where they welcomed their three children: Kari, Peggy and Jodi. Russell and Terri later separated, but remained close friends. Russell was a truck driver for practically his entire life, traveling cross country and visiting almost every state. He owned and managed Russell Atwood Trucking for several years and later retired with Schak Trucking Inc. Throughout the last several years, he resided with his daughter Peggy and son-in-law Bill. Due to failing health, last April he became a resident of Maple Lawn Senior Care in Fulda, Minnesota. Russell passed away on May 8, 2019 at Maple Lawn Senior Care at the age of 79 years. Russell enjoyed watching NASCAR races, playing pinochle, going to casinos, fishing and watching old western movies, but most cherished by Russell, was spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his children Kari Lynn Highman, Fulda, MN, Peggy Leah (William) Rachuy, Fulda, MN and Jodi Rae (Neil) Alderson, Highlands Ranch, CO; five grandchildren: Brandon, Samantha, Morgan, Carter, Chase; and great grandchild Harrison; two sisters: Alois Harstad, Las Vegas, NV, Shirley Speckmeier, Dundee, MN and brother, Robert Atwood and his wife Susan, Slayton, MN; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The Memorial Service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 13, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church in Slayton. Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens.
