1948 – Roger Dale Tyrrell – 2017
Roger Tyrrell was born on October 3, 1948 in Slayton, Minnesota to Lester “Bud” and Betty Natte Tyrrell. He grew up on a farm south of Slayton and graduated from Slayton High School in 1966. Roger was the first Slayton wrestler to make it all the way to state. Roger enlisted in the United States Navy on September 26, 1966. He was given an honorable discharged on June 25, 1969 to return home to help on the family farm following Bud’s heart attack. Roger worked for UPS in Slayton for seven years. He then went to Pipestone Vocational Technical College for auto mechanics. Roger and Jim Gillette owned and operated GT Auto in Slayton for 15 years. He then worked as a hired man for David Eisfelt and drove school bus for the Slayton School District and worked for Hadley Steel. Roger drove Stock Cars and IMCA Modified for several years. On August 12, 1989 he and LaDonna Deitchman were married in Slayton. Following their marriage they made their home south of Slayton. Roger passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at his home in Slayton at the age of 68. Roger enjoyed racing, watching Nascar Racing, and working on remodeling their home. If you need something fixed Roger was your man!
Survivors include his wife, LaDonna Tyrrell, Slayton, MN, one son, Ryan Tyrrell, Slayton, MN, three stepchildren, Mitch Deitchman, Benson, MN, Susan Deitchman and Barry Lund of Bancroft, NE, and Kris and Denise Deitchman, Lakefield, MN; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his mother, Betty Tyrrell Snelling and her husband, Bob, Slayton, MN; two brothers, Ronald Tyrrell, Slayton, MN, and Charles Tyrrell and his wife, Katherine, Lebanon, MO. He is preceded in death by his father, Lester “Bud” Tyrrell.
Funeral Services will be held at Totzke Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with Dave Hollis officiating. The pallbearers are John Engelkes, Tony Sorenson, Dan Johnson, Jim Gillette, Eric Gillette, Larry Meyer, and Randy Johnson. Military honors accorded by the Slayton American Legion Post and the Slayton VFW Post.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the Totzke Funeral in Slayton from 4-7 p.m. and also one hour prior to the services at the Totzke Funeral Home Wednesday. To send condolences visit totzkefuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting memorials.
