The Murray County Central Volleyball team opened their 2018 season at home this past Tuesday. For their first game, the Rebels hosted the Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks. Though the Blackjacks began their season a few days earlier, the Rebels came out strong for playing their first game of the season in the win against the Blackjacks.
Dawson-Boyd got the scoring going early in the first set as they tallied three quick points before a side out gave MCC their first point. The Blackjacks continued to earn points off hits that went out of bounds and along with a couple ace serves that put them up to 6-2. Following that small run, the Rebels took advantage of errors made by the Blackjacks and had a few ace serves of their own that gave them the lead, 8-6. The Rebels built up a small lead by a few points before Dawson-Boyd came back to tie the game off hits into the net by the Rebels at 13 points.
A short while later, the Blackjacks took the lead back by a couple points, but multiple net violations by the Blackjacks gave the Rebels a comfortable lead late in the set. Those violations led the Rebels to their first set victory of the season, 25-17.
The Rebels came out strong in the second set and commanded the game right from the start. They held a quick 5-0 lead before the Blackjacks stopped the run. MCC continued to pour onto their lead with perfect hits and had help with back to back ace serves from Danielle Kuball.
The Blackjacks used a timeout to try and sort things out, but the Rebels kept their momentum strong and used a strong attack at the net. In the end, the Rebels ran away with another comfortable win, 25-17.
