Despite the cold, wet conditions the Murray County Central golf teams earned the right to advance to compete on the second day of section 3A golf competition. The top four teams and the top one-fourth of the rest qualify for the second and final day which is scheduled for Wednesday, May 29th.
MCC’s Jack Pierson was the boys’ medalist with an 83 while Abby Hamman claimed top honors on the girls side carding an 81.
The Murray County Central girls finished top of the girls’ standings finishing with a 407. Coming in second was Adrian at 432 strokes, WWG 427 and Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda at 444.
The Rebels boys snuck in coming in fourth with a 399. HLO/F shot a 364 to top the squads followed by Wabasso 386, and Southwest Christian/Edgerton 392.
The boys were scheduled to tee off at 9:00 a.m. but due to the rain held off to approximately 10:30. Unfortunately, the misty rain didn’t cease causing the course to be very damp.
Despite these conditions, the golfers did quite well. Pierson came away pars on holes three, five, seven and nine carding a 42 on the first nine holes. On the back nine, Pierson managed pars for four straight holes to better his second nine by two strokes carding a 41 to end the day with an 83.
