The MCC Rebel Girls Basketball team made the trip to Marshall on Thursday for a rematch with the RTR Knights. Its not very often you play a non-conference team twice during the season let alone play them twice in the span of a week but that is exactly what the Rebels had to do this past week. The Rebels beat the Knights in Tyler a week earlier and they did it in overtime. This past Thursday the two teams played at 10:00 am at the RA Facility on the campus of Southwest Minnesota State University. The Rebels were without leading scorer Montana Beckmann but it wouldn’t matter in this game as the Rebels would out shoot the Knights for their 5th win of the season.
Both teams started he game slowly which isn’t uncommon for such an early game in the middle of the week. With the early start your crowd is also limited which makes for an interesting setting. The Rebels fell behind 5-0 over the first four minutes of the game. MCC struggled with turnovers again in this game committing 4 before they even got off a shot. The Rebels had everything click in the final 12 minutes of the half. MCC shot 44% from the field in the first half and with this team anything above 35% is pretty good. Rachel Van Iperen played well inside scoring 8 points to lead the Rebels in scoring. Riley Scmitz added five points on the fast break as MCC went from down 5 to up 5 in just a few minutes. Once the Rebels started looking up the floor they found open shots. Inside the paint the Knights struggled to stop the Rebels. MCC led at the half 21 to 14 in a much slower game than the contest in Tyler.
