The MCC Rebels were back on the court in the new year and they were looking to continue a short winning streak. The Rebel girls have struggled the past several seasons so a chance to get above the 500 mark and build on a winning streak is something they have not been able to do the last several seasons. MCC hosted the Westbrook Walnut Groves Chargers, a team that has struggled this season with a very young roster. MCC dominated this game with their pressure defense that led to easy offense.

The Rebels jumped out to the quick start, led by the defense. MCC’s high-pressure defense forced the Chargers into 20 total turnovers in the first half and didn’t allow shooters to get comfortable inside the three-point line.

WWG didn’t score until the game was nearly five minutes old when Theresa Merrick hit a shot from the free throw line. MCC was able to get out to an 8-0 lead with four points each by Montana Beckmann and Rachel Van Iperen. The Rebels struggled to shoot in the first half making under 40 percent of their shots they were able to get a high number of shots due to the turnovers they forced.
