Thursday the Rebel girls were in Fulda to take on the Coyotes of Heron Lake Okabena Fulda and unlike the boys, these teams squared off last season. This time around a tight game was expected and the teams delivered. While it wasn’t the best-played game nor was it high scoring both teams gave a great amount of effort. The Coyotes led almost the entire first half and the Rebels had their chance in the second half.
MCC got off to a great start with a couple of quick layups by Shelby Christensen and Brianna Schmitz who combined to score the first ten points of the game but it would take some time.
The Coyotes after a couple of early turnovers got some things going. Chrissy Hermeling made two early three-point shots and Khloe Gehl made another. The Coyotes led 19-6 at one point in the first half as they handled the Rebel pressure and made free throws.
The Rebels got into early foul trouble in this game and HLOF made seven of 10 first-half free throws. The Rebels, late in the half, finished strong scoring 12 straight points to get within one 19-18. Then the Coyotes outscored them six to three over the final 90 seconds of the first half.
