Jenny Kirchner, Stonegate Orchard of Slayton, has been busy this fall giving tours and providing information regarding her family orchard business. Stonegate Orchard is located just north of Slayton and offers visitors a chance to wander through the trees to pick their own apples. In all, Kirchner says she will offer tours up to 600 children throughout their fall season. Children are given a ride through the orchard, learn how to pick apples, watch as they are washed and sorted, packaged and prepared for sale. The Orchard offers a lot more than apples! Pop into their store for honey, local pottery, pumpkins, baked goods, and more than 16 juicy apple varieties. They were recently featured in Minnesota Grown as part of the locally grown road trip: Southwest Minnesota.
