The MCC Rebels had their longest road game of the season this past Saturday night as the Rebels traveled to New Ulm to play the Greyhounds of New Ulm Cathedral. The Rebels went into the game at 3-0 on the season while the Greyhounds were 2-1 with their only loss coming one week earlier on a last second field goal. The Rebels faced an old school running attack and they were up to the task for three of the four quarters. The one quarter they didn’t proved to be a big one to get over. The game ended 19-6.
The Rebels and the Greyhounds played a dead even first quarter as neither team scored and neither team separated themselves from the other. The second quarter was completely different. The Greyhounds started the scoring on a drive with a 32 yard punt return from Nathen Hauser. New Ulm Cathedral marched down the field using three, five, and seven yard runs. With the ball at the 21 yard line Josh Seidl did the unexpected, he faked a run and dropped back to pass. He threw the ball to John Gillis who reached out and made a great grab and dove into the end zone for the first points of the game. New Ulm Cathedral did not score on the extra point.
MCC trailed 6-0 but the Rebels tried to answer back driving the field with a couple nice runs and a nice catch for a first down from Matt Woldt. MCC saw the drive bog down and the Rebels turned it over on downs.
