Murray County creates Dementia Awareness Network

The Murray County Dementia Awareness Network (MCDAN) began in Murray County with funding from a dementia grant awarded to A.C.E. of SW Minnesota.  Members of the network include individuals that are interested in bringing dementia awareness and education to all that live in the County, including help to those who may be experiencing memory loss and their Caregivers.  We have held Virtual Aging/ Dementia Experience training in Slayton and Fulda.  This training gives the participants an inside view of the aging process so they can better understand what having memory loss/dementia might be like.  We have also shown the movie ‘Glenn Campbell:  I’ll Be Me’ to the general public.   Since the dementia grant ended in June of 2018, we have been collaborating with Nobles Cooperative Electric and Murray County Health Alliance to continue providing education to the residents of Murray County who are struggling with memory loss and their Caregivers.  Most recently, we have been working on creating ‘Reminiscence Kits’ for both people experiencing memory loss as well as their Caregivers that will be available for check-out from both the Slayton Public Library and the Fulda Public Library.
