HADLEY — Devoted to his home town and loyal to the many players who have suited up over the past three decades for the Hadley Buttermakers, Myron Bennett will be honored in mid-September by the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Association as a well-deserved inductee to that organization’s Hall of Fame.
Bennett’s official induction will take place at the St. Cloud River’s Edge Convention Center on Saturday, September 15. He will be part of a group of five who will be honored as new members of the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame, which was founded in 1963 and will be holding its 57th Annual Induction Ceremony this year.
After growing up in Hadley and graduating from Slayton High School with the Class of 1978, Bennett began playing amateur baseball with the Buttermakers in 1986 (when they re-organized after an absence of more than a decade) and became the team’s co-manager (along with Andy Monson) in the summer of 1992. The following year (1993), Bennett took charge himself and is currently guiding Hadley for a 26th consecutive season.
“It’s been a lot of fun, as I just enjoy baseball and the people of our community so much,” said Bennett about his more than three decades with the Buttermakers. “It’s certainly humbling to be recognized by your peers and all those who have helped keep Hadley baseball going so strong all through the years. I appreciate the kindness showed to me by all who had a hand in getting me selected for this honor.”
Ryan Beers, a 1992 Slayton High School graduate who played college baseball for the University of Minnesota’s Golden Gophers in the mid-1990s, started the ball rolling for Bennett’s Hall of Fame selection and received tons of support through endorsement letters.
