Students and visitors to the local schools will find a pleasant, colorful surprise on the walls of the Murray County Central’s West Elementary and Central schools locker rooms and restrooms this year:  lettering on the walls sporting messages of encouragement intended to inspire students of all ages.

Project coordinator Lauren Biegler explains,“I saw a picture of another school and it struck me as being a really neat idea,” she says. “Kids all need a bit of encouragement.” And so Biegler, with the blessing of school superintendent Joe Meier, enlisted the aid of friend Sheryl Woelberg, who offered to design and craft the vinyl lettering for her, donating her time and efforts to the cause.

Biegler then went in search of messages: those of reassurance, positive image, being oneself, working hard, confidence, kindness and doing one’s best now, and says that she jotted them down, providing Woelberg with pages of chicken scratches that she designed and printed on vinyl lettering.

Once the lettering had been made, Biegler called on volunteers Brittney Schmidt, Cassidy Paulzine and Natalie Schmidt to begin installing the messages on locker rooms walls and bathroom stalls. It wasn’t a huge thing Biegler says modestly, but having their help was so nice.  “I do appreciate so many people wanting to help,” she says, adding that working with a small group was beneficial.
