The MCC Rebel Boys were on the road Monday night with a showdown with the Adrian Dragons. Both teams entered the nights game with two-game winning streaks and similar conference records. So this game was important for both teams to stay hot and keep their winning streaks going but also to stay in front of the other in the Red Rock Conference standings. This game’s outcome was decided by one key stat. Turnovers played a huge factor in the game and both teams helped themselves by causing turnovers and cost themselves by giving them away.
Adrian started quickly with a quick basket by Skylar Polzine and a couple of big outside shots by Ryan Wieneke. The Dragons led the game 7-0 before the Rebels offense got into any sort of rhythm. MCC turned the ball over on two of their first four possessions and that allowed the Dragons to jump out to the early lead. MCC got things going with a Justin Benda drive to the basket followed by Nate Everson and Spencer Wajer picking the right shots to take and the right drives to the hoop. MCC wouldn’t just change the game in two possessions but rather slowly over a few minutes. MCC forced 8 turnovers over the final eight minutes of the half and during that time the Rebels went from trailing by 1 to up 10. The Adrian Dragons size caused the Rebels some problems but Wajer and Everson found themselves open. Everson finished the half with 11 points and Wajer added 10. Ryan Wieneke is the Dragons top offensive player and though he scored 8 points early in the half some key fouls slowed him down. Christian Weidert attacked the basket for 6 first-half points for Adrian but MCC led at the half 29 to 20. MCC turned the ball over just 3 times in the first half which was big.
