Three golfers from MCC found their way to the state tournament this year participating as individuals. The Rebels are quite familiar with the Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker, Minnesota. Tyler Groves, Jack Pierson, and Abby Hamman are all returning state participants. The beautiful, yet challenging course was the ultimate test both physically and mentally. Tuesday morning the weather was gorgeous for the boys tee time. As the day went on it turned hot and windy for the girls in the afternoon. Similarly, on Wednesday a beautiful morning for the boys turned into a hot and humid afternoon for the girls.
Day one MCC freshman Abby Hamman shot her personal low of 82, placing her in seventh place. Hamman started on the back nine shooting a 44. Coming in on the front she shot a 38, with a birdie on hole 9. From the tee box Hamman was unstoppable, hitting almost every fairway each day. Day two’s pin placements put up a challenge for all the golfers. Abby shot a 43 out and 50 in, for a total of 93. Hamman’s two day total of 175 tied her for 15th place overall at the state tournament. This being only her 2nd time at state, Abby improved by 31 strokes. Hamman has got a bright future ahead of her and hopefully more state appearances.
