1947 – Maynard Leo Jackels – 2016
Maynard Leo Jackels was born July 12, 1947 in Tracy, Minnesota to Truman and Olga (Nelson) Jackels. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Dovray, Minnesota. Maynard graduated from Westbrook High School in 1965. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1968 serving as a gunner on a ship in Vietnam. Maynard received three Bronze Stars and was honorably discharged in 1971. After the service, he returned home to farm with his family which he did until his retirement. After retiring, Maynard continued helping various local farmers. He enjoyed the wheat run from Texas to Canada. Maynard was a member of the Dovray American Legion, Minnesota Trappers Association, and long-time member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Maynard enjoyed hunting, fishing, and farming. He loved going to the bakery and having coffee and visiting with friends, and spending time with his grandchildren. Maynard of Slayton, Minnesota passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Murray County Medical Center in Slayton, at the age 68.
Maynard is survived by his children: Tim (special friend Rusty Krentz) Jackels, Dovray, MN, Matt (Deanna) Jackels, Dovray, MN, and Jodi (Mark) Taylor, St. Peter, MN; seven grandchildren: Samual and Cassandra Jackels, Edward, Zachary, and Benjamin Taylor, and Connor and Lainey Jackels; sisters: Arlis Ourada, Walnut Grove, MN and Lorraine Hammerschmidt, Faribault, MN; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Arvin, Maureen, Juleen, and Larry Lee.
