1965 – Mark Steven Nelson – 2017

  Mark Nelson was born on April 6, 1965 in Slayton, Minnesota to James and Ruth Sagmoen Nelson. He grew up in Slayton and graduated from Slayton High School in 1983. Following high school Mark attended Willmar AVTI graduating in 1985. Following graduation Mark interned for Cannon Valley Coop in Northfield, Minnesota for a short time before moving to Spring Green, Wisconsin where he worked for FS. On June 12, 1993 he and Jean Wagner were married in Seaforth, Minnesota. Following their marriage they made their home in Northfield, Minnesota until 1996 when they moved to Kenyon, Minnesota where Mark continued to work as a custom applicator for Nerstrand Agri Center. In 2006 the family moved to Slayton, Minnesota and Mark went to work for Chandler Coop. Due to failing health Mark moved to Our House Hospice Home in Slayton on March 7, 2017 and passed away there on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the age of 51. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton. Mark enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, races and playing cribbage.

Survivors include his wife Jean Nelson; two children: Shawna Nelson and Tanner Nelson all of Slayton, MN; his mother Ruth Nelson, Slayton, MN; three brothers and their spouses: Dale and Linda Nelson, Slayton, MN, Jeff and Joy Nelson, Stoughton, WI and Tom Nelson, Avoca, MN; mother-in-law, Joan Wagner, Wabasso, MN; several sisters-in-law and their spouses, and many nephews and nieces and their families. He was preceded in death by his father James Nelson; grandparents: Abe and Jenny Nelson and Walter and Alice Sagmoen, and father-in-law Gerald Wagner.

Funeral services were held at Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on Monday, March 13, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Ted Kunze officiating. The organist was Ladean Lang with special music by Heidi Winter and Jeff Erickson. The pallbearers weare Dylan Nelson, Sean Solheim, Craig Remiger, Terry Wagner, Tim Foy, Jason Ross, Dana Ross and Alex Solheim. Interment is at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in rural Slayton, MN.
