Louise Gervias: True pioneer remembered for her work

By JoAnn Biren

Murray County lost a true pioneer.  Louise Gervais died on Good Friday, April 14.  She was an amazing woman.  Louise lived by the strength of her convictions.  She lived her faith, spending many hours praying for family and friends.  And, she loved Currie.  Boy, did she love Currie!

She, along with her side-kick Dorothy Ruppert spent countless, unpaid I might add, hours working at End-O-Line Park.  What began as a 4-H project soon evolved into an attraction that drew people from all over the world.  Oh yes, Louise was particular.  She wanted perfection in ‘her’ park.  She didn’t want imitation replicas, she wanted the real deal and she worked night and day to make sure that’s what the park was all about.  It was real.  The reason many donated historical railroad items, time and monetary support was because of Louise’s enthusiasm for the park.

The history at the park was palpable.  If you were lucky enough to have her as a guide on a tour, nothing was watered down; you found yourself transported back in time when Currie was a shining star in the County of Murray; a time when people traveled by rail and many depended on the railroad to help prosper their business.
