1924 – Leona May (Binning) Lundy – 2018
Leona was born on December 4, 1924, to Ralph and Lizzie Binning, at the Binning farm house in Van Wert, Iowa. She grew up on her family’s farm at Van Wert, and went to Pleasant Hill country grade school. She often walked to school with her brothers down the railroad tracks. She enjoyed participating in lots of 4-H activities throughout her high school years. Leona graduated in 1943 from Decatur County High School in Leon, Iowa. Three years later she married her sweetheart Russel Lundy on August 4, 1946 at the Leon Brethren Church. Leona and Russel were blessed with a family of seven children. Russel’s railroad career took them to many different locations and she made a loving home in every one. She gardened and canned all her garden produce, and was a wonderful homemaker and mother. Leona sewed everything from baby clothes, blankets, school dresses, shirts, to sport coats and bridesmaids dresses. She was an accomplished seamstress. Leona passed away on July 10, 2018 at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda, Minnesota at the age of 93.
Leona is survived by six children: Judy and Mike Varner, Colorado Springs, CO, Carl and Kathy Lundy, Jacksonville Fl, Sharon and Don Hudepohl, Williamsburg, IA, Bill and Audrey Lundy, Slayton, MN, Doris and Ron Martin, Prattville, AL, Steve and Eileen Lundy, Omaha, NE, and son-in-law Don Link, Oklahoma City, OK; 21 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Russel Lundy; daughter Neva (Lundy) Link and her brother Gordon Binning.
A family memorial will be held, to celebrate her life, August 4, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Brethren Church in Leon, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Murray County Minnesota.
