Jottings by Jerry – November 6

Breaking ice as we paddled through the clogged waterways at Badger Lake was easier because the temperature was increasing. We were defeated by the large clumps of cattails that had blown into the Chanel, blocking progress. The water was chest-deep and the hunt was over. The fact that there were very few ducks flying made it easier to decide it was time to hunt pheasants. That was considerably easier because I only post.

It was also more successful. That was when the weekend ended earlier because of a barbwire cut on the front leg of Maggie, our lab. It will be a week until she is ready for the field. Of course, this weekend deer hunting starts the nine-day season. Weather looks very good for the hunt.

The last of the leaves should fall this week, hopefully making the yard work have an end, hopefully. I have a few more tulips that need to be in the ground before it freezes up. The harvest and fieldwork made good progress in the last week lowering some of the stress with an end in sight.

Snow is mentioned more often in the weather forecast. That should prepare us for the mental acceptance of winter. We are weeks away from Thanksgiving and should have acceptable weather yet this fall. Enjoy them.
