1947 – Joan Elaine Pederson -2017
Joan Pederson, the daughter of John and Lorraine (Van Dasselaar) Cuperus, was born on January 28, 1947 in Slayton, Minnesota. She grew up on the family farm west of Fulda, Minnesota and attended school in Fulda graduating from the Fulda High School in 1965. She then attended nursing school in Sioux Falls, South Dakota graduating in 1966 with a LPN degree. Joan was united in marriage to Larry Pederson on September 10, 1966 in Fulda. After their marriage they lived in Storden, Minnesota until 1970 when they moved to Avoca, Minnesota. In 1975 they moved to Fulda where they made their home together. Over the years she worked as a nurse at the Lakefield and Heron Lake Hospitals and the Maple Lawn Nursing Home and later as a truck driver with her husband. Joan remained at home after Larry passed away in October of 2012. Joan passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda at the age of 70. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Avoca. Joan enjoyed gardening, running with her “partner in crime”, Vicki, asparagus hunting, playing cards, visiting with friends, cross-stitch and helping others.
Survivors include her four children: Theresa Pederson, Fulda, MN, Grady Pederson, Windom, MN, Cindy (Craig) Egan, Detroit Lakes, MN and Karla (Tellis) Pederson-Capell, Sioux Falls, SD; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; father John Cuperus, Fulda, MN; sister Carol (Bob) Steuck, Maple Grove, MN; two brothers: Gaylen (Marlene) Cuperus, Iona, MN and David (Lisa) Cuperus, Fulda, MN and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother; husband; daughter April and granddaughter Courtney Pederson.
Funeral services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church Avoca, MN at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 13, 2017 with Rev. Dawn Quame officiating. The organist is Sherri Isder. The soloist is Sheila Crowley. Interment will be at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery Storden, MN at a later date. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
