1930 – Jeanne Mich Schrantz – 2016
Jeanne Schrantz (85), of Slayton, MN died with her family at her side on August 27, 2016 in Pine Island, MN following a long struggle recovering from heart surgery in Feb. of this year.
Mary Jean Mich was born on Dec. 5, 1930 in Granville, IA to Raymond and Cora Mich. She married James Schrantz, Slayton, MN on June 12, 1954 in Kingsley, IA. Following their marriage Jeanne and Jim resided in Slayton where Jim worked for Schrantz Brothers Electric until he took control and owned and operated Schrantz Electric.
Jeanne worked in the Slayton Public Schools in the pre-school and kindergarten classes as an aid for 22 years until her retirement at the age of 62. She was a member of Catholic Daughters at St. Ann’s in Slayton. She enjoyed bridge and belonged to two bridge clubs. She enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles and was a wonderful cook. Jeanne was proud wife, mother and grandmother. She took great pleasure in spending time with her family and looked forward to visits when her kids “kids came home”.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Cora Mich; her sister, Carol Merwin and her brothers, Dennis Mich and Richard Mich. She is survived by her husband, Jim, three daughters, and one son; Cathy (Bob) Peters of Laurel, MD; Rick (Michelle) of Rochester, MN; Julie (Gordon) Giefer, Pine Island, MN and Becky (Edward) Lilly of Peoria, AZ. She is also survived by a sister, Dee Shaw of Vancouver, WA and a brother, Norman Mich of Stockton, CA. She was the proud grandma of eight and great grandma of eight children.
There will be a private memorial service on Sept. 2, 2016 in Pine Island, MN.
