The Murray County Central Schools honored area veterans with a program this past Monday afternoon. A slideshow of veterans played on the overhead screen as area veterans were escorted into the gymnasium by fourth-grade students and relatives.
The MCC school patrol processed the colors into the gymnasium followed by Signey Swanson and Namoi Berglund with the American flag and Minnesota State flag. The pledge of allegiance was led by the kindergarten and first-grade students and ‘In Flanders Field’ was sung by the MCC Concert Choir.
Lt. Col. Kyle Korver, USAF, was the guest speaker for the event. Korver, married to Stephanie (Pavlis), recently retired from the Air Force and him along with his family reside near Hadley. Korver completed his officer training at South Dakota State University in Brookings in 1997 and later completed a master’s degree in business management with the University of California. He completed numerous assignments at nine duty stations including joint duty with the United States Transportation Command and deployments from US Air Force Command and US Africa Command as well as three tours as a squadron commander. His final assignment was at Ramstein Air Base in Germany where he served as deputy commander of 86th Mission Support Group. This group is comprised of 3600 military and civilian members providing personnel force protection, contracting, postal and communication services for over 50,000 US military personnel in the Kaiserslautern, Germany area.
Korver shared a passage from Michael Gilday who is a United States Navy admiral and serves as Chief of Naval Operations. Gilday wrote, “Across the Nation this Veteran’s Day we honor the service, sacrifice, and commitment of those men and women who have worn the cloth of our Nation.”
