Heat greets tracksters at Section 3A meet

Thursday’s temperatures proved to more like July than late May. Hovering near 90 degrees the athletes of Section 3A converged at Thunderhawk Stadium hoping for a chance to move on to this week’s state Class A meet at Hamline University in Saint Paul. Only the top two finishers in each event or the top relay advance – unless they met state standards.

Seventh grade student Amanda Overgaauw made her first trip to the section completing four laps around the track in the 1600 meter competition. Overgaauw crossed the finish line at 6:14.49 in a tie for the 13th place spot.

Senior Emily Kathman was a competitor in the 3200 meter run. She treked around the loop eight times and clocked a time of 14:20.04 to finish 14th overall.

Junior Anna Mathiowetz got out of the starting blocks to earn 12th in the 100 meter hurdles earning a 12th place spot.

Ryanna Schreier, eighth grade, leaped her way around the 300 meter hurdle race for the 13th place finish.

The Murray County Central foursome of Ryanna Schreier, Amanda Overgaauw, Josie Harms and Emily Kathman combined their efforts in the 4×800 meter relay. They finished 10th overall with a time 11:02.58.
