1921 – Harris Herman Miller – 2018
Harris Herman Miller was born on the family farm in Skandia township, Murray County, on July 20, 1921 to Hilding and Frances (Hedin) Miller. He attended country school through eighth grade and one quarter at the University of Minnesota Ag School in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was baptized, confirmed, married, and a lifelong and active member of Sillerud Lutheran Church, rural Balaton, Minnesota. Harris married Edna Hubbard at Sillerud on October 2, 1948. They farmed on his family farm where they raised four daughters. He loved farming and ran the combine for 79 years. Harris and Edna traveled extensively in the US and several foreign countries. They spent winters in Mesa, Arizona. They moved to Balaton in 1980. Harris died Friday, December 29, 2017 at the Colonial Manor in Balaton at the age of 97.
He is survived by his wife Edna of 69 years; daughters and their spouses: Connie and Ron Schwartau, Balaton, MN, Lu and Bernie Miller, Scottsdale, AZ, Joyce and Andy Mundahl, Golden Valley, MN, Jan and Ken Haeg, Edina, MN; four grandchildren: Kristian Mundahl, John Harris Mundahl, Danny Haeg, Molly Haeg; sister Marion (and Don) Tate, Hutchinson, MN; and many nieces and nephews. Harris was preceded in death by his parents Hilding and Frances; five brothers and their spouses: Clifford, Glennon and Irene, Vernon and Rosella, LeRoy and Doris, George and Mildred; and two brothers-in-law: Ole Hytjan and Herb Graff.
Funeral services for Harris Miller, were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at Sillerud Lutheran Church in rural Balaton with Pastor Lori VonHoltum officiating. The family will have a private interment at a later date. Memorials preferred to Sillerud Lutheran Church, Colonial Manor in Balaton, MN, the Balaton Area Historical Society, or Shetek Lutheran Ministries. Arrangements by Life Remembrance Center of Balaton.
