Redwood Falls, MN – Christmas time is here and that means it is wrestling tournament time and the Redwood River Riot in Redwood Falls did not disappoint. Redwood Falls has a huge venue, with two gyms, and the entire house was packed with wrestlers, parents, and spectators. One gym on Friday night housed a tournament for the ninth grade teams while the first few rounds of the high school wrestlers took place in the other. Starting Saturday morning the revelry continued with Junior varsity in the community center portion of the facility and varsity in the other. The Warriors had wrestlers in both areas and spread our coaches thin as there are only two of them. Head coach Nick Henning, and assistant coach Cody Kramer showed a lot of excitement as they traveled back and forth between the wrestlers taking notes as the matches took place.
Although the Warriors didn’t have any place winners in the tournament we did have a couple of exciting matches. Kadin Kuehl got the first win of the tournament in the second round when the took on Brody Lien of New London Spicer. Kuehl lost his first match of the tournament, but in the second round kept his composure, and used his patience looking for his chance to score. The first period went scoreless, but the second period Kuehl started on the bottom referees position performed a perfect switch and got the reversal, and put in a deep half nelson and put Liens’ shoulder to the mat for the pin. Kuehls’ second match on Saturday morning he took on David Grant and didn’t waste any time getting the first takedown and slipping in a chicken wing and armbar with his legs and getting a quick pin in 54 seconds.
