Floyd Schadt – Obituary

1923 – Floyd Peter Emery Schadt – 2019

Floyd Schadt was born on January 17, 1923 in Heron Lake, Minnesota to Harry and Kitty Van Horsen Schadt.  He was baptized at the Methodist in Heron Lake, and confirmed at the Westbrook Lutheran Church in Westbrook, Minnesota.  Floyd graduated from Windom High School, Windom, Minnesota in 1943.  In May 1946 Floyd was drafted to the United States Army and served in Korea.  Following his honorable discharge on June 2, 1948 he retuned to the Windom area.  On January 23, 1948 he and Irene Sell were married at the Westbrook Lutheran Church in Westbrook.  Following their marriage they lived one year near Storden, Minnesota where Floyd worked as a hired man.  They then moved to a farm near Slayton, Minnesota for 13 years before purchasing a farm near Fulda, Minnesota.  They retired in 1990 and moved to Slayton.  Floyd spent many hours volunteering at Hegstad Equipment in Slayton.  Irene passed away on March 20, 2012 and later that year Floyd moved to Lindenwood Assisted Living in Slayton.  In December 2016 Floyd became a resident of the Slayton Rehabilitation and Health Care Center where he passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at the age of 96.  He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton where he served as usher.  Floyd also was a member of the Slayton VFW Post.  Floyd took great pride in his appearance and keeping his home and cars in tiptop shape.   Floyd enjoyed gardening, fishing and visiting and helping family and friends.

Survivors include one sister-in-law Hilma Thompson, Minneapolis, MN and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by is parents; and wife Irene; one brother Virgil and Margaret (Peggy) Schadt; two sisters: Sylvia and Clem Leonard and Adeline and Burton Hedge.

Funeral services were held at Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Grant Fischer officiating.  The organist was Brenda Whitehead with special music by Leon Kruse.  The pallbearers were Randy Wynia, Jeff Pearson, Charles Benda, Ric Sell, Myron Ruesch and Bruce Leinen.  Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens in Slayton, MN.  Military honors accorded by the Slayton American Legion Post and the Slayton VFW Post.
