Displaying extraordinary balance and depth, including claiming the first three individual places, the Murray County Central / Fulda girls impressively earned the 2019 Red Rock Conference team championship at the Slayton Golf Club Monday, October 14.
The Warriors, led by the 1-2-3 up-front performances of Morgan Gehl, Ashley Overgaauw and Amanda Overgaauw, dominated the meet, as teammates Brylei Schreier, Ella Stapek and Josie Harms locked up the championship by finishing sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.
With those six all earning individual All-Conference honors (Top 10), the Warriors tallied just 19 points (1-2-3-6-7) to easily win the team title. A well-balanced Southwest Minnesota Christian / Edgerton squad, which lacked the front-runner punch of MCC / F, claimed runner-up honors with 47 points (5-9-10-11-12).
Mountain Lake Area / Comfrey (90) and Adrian (91) also had complete scores, while Heron Lake-Okabena and Ellsworth were incomplete.
Gehl won her fourth straight individual championship, running far ahead of the field with a stellar time of 18:04 over the 5,000-meter course, which includes a pair of trips up “Big Bertha” and three climbs up the long hill along Highway 59.
