1934 – Douglas Leo Leinen – 2017
Douglas Leinen, the son of Leo and Elizabeth (Vick) Leinen, was born on August 1, 1934 on a farm near Westbrook, Minnesota. He grew up near Westbrook and later moved with his family to a farm near Fulda, Minnesota. Doug grew up on the farm and attended country school and the Fulda High School. Doug was united in marriage to Marlene Kommes on June 26, 1955 in Fulda, Minnesota. After their marriage they lived on various farms near Fulda until they moved to a farm southwest of Fulda in 1965. He farmed and later was a DeKalb Seed Dealer. They remained on the farm until 2011 when they moved to their home in Fulda. Doug became a resident of the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda in February of 2012 and passed away there on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at the age of 82. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda. Doug also belonged to the Prairie Reapers and was a past Fulda Co-op board member. He enjoyed collecting antique tractors and all other antiques, farm toys and attending auctions and swap meets.
Survivors include his wife Marlene Leinen, Fulda, MN; three children: Peggy (David) Palomaki, David City, NE, Diane (John) Schettler, Wilmont, MN and Bruce Leinen, Fulda, MN; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and sister Marla Ford, Watertown, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Darrell Leinen and two brothers: Gerald and Lowell Leinen.
Funeral services were held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Fulda, MN at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, July 10, 2017 with Rev. Shawn Ethridge officiating. The organist was Loretta Gehl. The soloist was A.W. Koopman. The pallbearers were his grandchildren: Randy Schettler, Lori Klein, Ashley Nankivil, Adam Leinen, Aaron Leinen, Nicole Leinen, Brittany Dufour, Andrew Palomaki, Michael Palomaki and Philip Palomaki.
