1926 – Dorothy Thovson – 2017
Dorothy Thovson was born August 29, 1926 to Monte Loosemore and Evangeline (Denker) Loosemore in Canby, Minnesota. Dorothy lived 90 plus years in the Canby community. She graduated from Canby High school. Dorothy and Sanford were united in marriage on October 12, 1946. From this union, six children were born. They were married 68 years. Dorothy and Sanford raised their children on a family farm north of Porter, Minnesota. She enjoyed reading, cooking, baking, gardening, sewing and sitting in the sun for a break. Parades at Dairy Days, Hat Daze, fishing and picnics with family delighted her. She made unique quilts for each of the grandchildren’s high school graduation. Dorothy worked for 20 years as a home health aide, where her patients were the recipients of her compassion and care. Dorothy loved visits from family and friends and looked forward to hearing the details of their lives.
Dorothy was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church participating in WELCA committees and Bible Study. Her faith continued to grow as her health challenges increased. Dorothy died peacefully surrounded by loved ones on June 11, 2017 at the Sanford Canby Medical Center at the age of 90 years, 9 months and 13 days.
