District voters to cast their ballot for proposed bonding referendum on August 8th

The Murray County Central school district launched project that, should voters approve in a referendum August 8th will make way for the addition of a new practice gymnasium/community center addition to its existing building.  What has for many years been a wish and now a necessity, the gymnasium would fill the district’s educational and extracurricular and community needs.

Murray County Central Independent School District #2169 is proposing a single question bond referendum on August 8, 2017 that would authorize $4,745,000 in bonding authority to finance a 17,931 square foot gymnasium addition and minor renovations to the existing high school.

Currently space is at a premium, Superintendent Joe Meyer explains, noting that some physical education and health classes are being taught in the hallways adjacent to the gym. Having an additional practice area would alleviate those issues as well as result in more effective practice schedules for boys’ and girls’ extracurricular activities.

The proposed addition includes a two-station gymnasium with ancillary spaces, including a walking track, on the south side of the existing high school structure.  Proposed upgrades to the existing structure include renovations to accommodate concessions, restrooms and a lobby area as well as shop classroom improvements.
