Minneapolis, MN – Slayton resident Desiree Haupert was recognized by the Minnesota Region of the American Red Cross as the 2019 Volunteer Rookie of the Year. This award is presented to a volunteer who has shown a strong commitment to the Red Cross mission and is considered a rising star in the organization.
“Desiree’s positive personality is perfect for the work that the Red Cross does, and she is personable with clients and volunteers,” said Desiree’s nominator Morgan Sommers, Disaster Services Specialist for the American Red Cross serving Southwest Minnesota. “She cheerfully took on new responsibilities, including being trained as a Duty Officer to coordinate disaster responses. Plus, Desiree volunteered to write and produce our newsletters. The Red Cross team would not be the same without her.”
Regional Executive Director Phil Hansen shared, “People of all ages and backgrounds, abilities and experiences and blood types choose to connect to their community and country through the Red Cross. We’re incredibly grateful for our volunteers like Desiree who share their time to serve others, embodying our mission to prevent and alleviate human suffering.”
Every year, the Red Cross recognizes remarkable volunteers from across the Minnesota Region in 10 categories, including; Rookie of the Year, Behind the Scenes, Distinguished Leader, Outreach, Customer Service, Outstanding Youth, and Volunteer of the Year.
