Carolyn Larson has joined the staff at the Murray County Medical Center as their new certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA).

According to Wikipedia, a nurse anesthetist is a nurse who specializes in the administration of anesthesia. In the United States, a CRNA is an advanced practice registered nurse who has acquired graduate-level education and board certification in anesthesia.

Nurse anesthetists have been providing anesthesia care in the United States for 150 years. According to the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, nurse anesthetists are the oldest nurse specialty group in the United States. Their primary position is to care for the patients before, during and immediately after surgery. “Keeping the patient safe is my primary goal.” stated Larson. “I help to control pain and watch for side effects as a result of the anesthesia.”
