†Funeral Services were held at St. Annís Catholic Church in Slayton, MN on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. James Seitz officiating.†

Lawrence B. Halbur was born on September 7, 1920 on the Halbur family Homestead southwest of Iona, Minnesota to F. John and Anna Friedman Halbur.† Lawrence grew up on the family farm and attended country school and later St. Columba School.† Lawrence helped his father farm until 1941 when he then took over the family farm.† On January 16, 1946 he and Lorraine F. Hoffman were married at St. Kilian Catholic Church in St. Kilian, MN.† Following their marriage they continued to farm the Halbur family farm and raised their five children.† They retired in 1982 but remained on the farm until 1994 when they moved to Slayton.† In December of 2008 they moved to Mapleview Estates in Fulda.† Lawrence passed away at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the age of 93.† He was a member of St. Annís Church in Slayton and a former member of St. Columba Church in Iona where he served on the church council, as usher and was on the building committee for the new church.† Lawrence served on the Murray County Historical Society Board and as Supervisor on the Iona Township Board for many years.† He also was active with Slayton Senior Dining and was a member of RSVP.† Lawrence and Lorraine delivered Meals on Wheels and volunteered monthly at the Golden Living Center-Slayton.† Lawrence enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, reading, traveling, playing cards, bingo and volunteering.†

Survivors include his beloved wife of 67 years, Lorraine F. Halbur of Fulda, MN, five children and their spouses, Charlene and George Lincoln of Frost, MN, Steve and Lorraine M. Halbur of Slayton, MN, Margene and Michael Vortherms of Fulda, MN, Lois and Mark Katterhagen of Yankton, SD, and David and Sherri Halbur of Iona, MN, nine grandchildren, Sheri (fiancee, Dan Gnetz) Halbur, Travis (April) Halbur, Mark (Sarah) Vortherms, Matt Vortherms, Lee (Aly) Lincoln, Wesley Halbur, Macy Halbur, Kyle Katterhagen and Kate Katterhagen, 4 great-grandchildren, one sister, Elizabeth Kruse of Fort Atkinson, IA, many nieces and nephews.† He is preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, seven brothers, John, Pete, William, Tony, Frank, Joe and Nick Halbur, and three sisters, Mary Halbur, Sr. Allan Halbur and Sr. Evelyn Halbur.†

†Funeral Services were held at St. Annís Catholic Church in Slayton, MN on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. James Seitz officiating.† The organist was Judy Andrews.† The song leader was Tom Andrews.† The pallbearers are his grandchildren.† Interment is at St. Annís Catholic Cemetery Slayton, MN.†

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lawrence Halbur family which will then be directed to several local organizations.†

†Visititation will be Monday from 4 to 7 PM At St. Annís Cathoilic Church in Slayton with a 4 PM rosary. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.† The Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton is assisitng the family with arrangements.† Sign guestbook online at
