1929 - Dr. Robert D. Schrantz - 2013 Dr. Robert D. Schrantz, a graduate of St. Johnís University and Loyola Medical School, spent two years in the Air Force before practicing medicine for five years in Park Rapids, Minnesota. He then took a residency in pathology at Mayo Clinic.†In 1972, Dr. Schrantz founded Laboratory Control in Ottumwa, Iowa where he established a laboratory system which became regarded as a model in the field of pathology.† In 2006, Dr. Schrantz was the recipient of a lifetime achievement award from the Ottumwa Regional Health Foundation in recognition of his role as a pioneer in creating health systems that improved the accessibility and quality of care.† In addition being CEO of Laboratory Control, Dr. Schrantz was instrumental in the founding of the Ottumwa Medical Clinic and, due to his deep commitment to the treatment of substance abuse, he was the Medical Director of The Ottumwa Regional Family Recovery Center; his work and leadership made a profound impact on the health and quality of life in Southeast Iowa.† Dr. Schrantz, St. Paul, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, December 24 at the age of 84. Dr. Robert D. Schrantz was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by wife Sharon; children: Michael (Jayne), Mark, Mary and husband, Joseph Wilson, Jeffrey (Denise), Patrick (Tracy), Jane Schrantz, Doran and husband, Christopher Conry, Sarah and husband, Andrew Sims; grandchildren: Leann, Joshua, Kristin, Laura, Jacob, Zach, Callie, Jonathan, Lauren, Isaac, Eli, Claire, Tate, Clara and Alice; eight great-grandchildren; sister Lois Welshons; brother Roger Schrantz. A Funeral Service was held in St. Paul, MN. Memorials preferred to Catholic Charities Social Justice Fund. Willwerscheid Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
