Justin Bakke, left, and Tate Meyer, inside, wrap up their Lac Qui Parle Valley opponent
with a victory
By Joel Herrig Murray County News Staffwriter

The MCC Rebels opened the 2013 football season with a new opponent. New was the theme for the first game of the season for the Rebels as MCC was playing Lac Qui Parle Valley the new member of the Little Sioux Conference. It was the first game for new Rebel Coach Travis VanOverbeke. To top it all off it was the latest starting game in recent Rebel history as the game was moved back to an 8:00 p.m. kickoff as the area tried to avoid one of the hottest days of the year. The Murray County Central Rebels took the field for the first time this season and came away with hard fought victory.

The Rebels and the Eagles stepped on the field with plenty of question marks on Thursday night. Both teams have very young rosters with lots of underclassmen seeing playing time at key positions. Because the team is young, the new Rebel coaching staff’s challenge was with the offense and defense. On the other hand the Rebels were playing a new team for the first time so everything was bound to be new anyway.
