Murray County Food celebrates 30 years of serving Shelf

Marie Van Dam awarded WCCO Good Neighbor Award

Neighbors have always been willing to share their bounty with others in need and these days there are plenty of people who face every day knowing they will be unable to put food on their family's table.  Whether it be for lack of employment, an illness or simply the inability to stretch the paycheck an inch farther, there are many folks who have been helped through the local food shelf in the last thirty years.

The Murray County Food Shelf, which was established in 1983, has served countless individuals and families through the years, Food Shelf Board Director Karen  Tommeraasen says.  In the beginning, the organization was dubbed the Murray County Emergency Food Shelf and was developed by the local ministerial association in March of that year.
