Preparation for the house burn has been under way since January.

On Saturday April 6, there was a mutual aid house burn coordinated by the Slayton Fire Department. Every fire department in the county was invited to participate in the burn and included Balaton, Chandler, Currie, Dovray, Fulda, Iona, Lake Wilson and Slayton. There were a total of 59 firemen at the mutual aid burn along with two ambulance crews.

Preparation for the house burn has been under way since January. The first step is to find a property owner who has a house they are willing to let the fire department burn. The house also needs to be in a safe area. Houses too close to other buildings on a farm site are not useable.

Second is to confirm the house itself is safe. The roof can't be falling in or leaking really bad and the windows need to be intact.
