Funeral services were held at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, Fulda, MN at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 with the Fr. Andrew Vogel officiating.

William Sauer, the son of Charles J. and Regina Zins Sauer, was born on November 26, 1932 on the family farm in Bondin Township, Murray County Minnesota.  He grew up on the family farm and attended country school and St. Gabriel’s Catholic School in Fulda, Minnesota. He entered the U.S. Army in 1953 and served during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1955. Bill was united in marriage to Joan Diekmann on October 24, 1955 at St. Kilian Catholic Church in St. Kilian, Minnesota. After their marriage they lived on a farm west of Fulda their entire married lives. Bill remained on the farm after Joan passed away in October of 2009. He was a Murray County Commissioner for 20 years, being chairman for five. Bill passed away on March 25, 2013 at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was a member of St. Gabriel’s Church in Fulda and was a Eucharistic Minister. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Bill was also a member of Fulda American Legion Post 318, Fulda VFW Post 9017, Fulda Lions, Fulda Heritage Club and the Fulda Community Club.  Bill was a township clerk and board member for many years, a member of the Fulda Fish and Game Club, Murray County Zoning Inspector. He also chaired many committees for RDC and was on the Murray County Hospital Board, Park Board, Plum Creek Library board and SMOC. He enjoyed archery, hunting, fishing, horses, antique tractors, woodworking, playing cards, watching western movies, polka music, playing the accordion, spending time at their lake home and his grandkids.

Survivors include his three sons: Bruce (Barbara) Sauer, Albert Lea, MN, Barry (Kerry) Sauer, Lismore, MN and Thomas (Patricia) Sauer, Ames, IA; nine grandchildren; sister Mary (Loren) Diekmann, Wells, MN; sister-in-law Joan Sauer, Worthington, MN; other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife and brothers, Charles and Anthony Sauer.

Funeral services were held at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, Fulda, MN at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 with the Fr. Andrew Vogel officiating. The organist was Mary Ann Boom. The song leader was Jerry Zins. The pallbearers were his grandchildren, Erin, Clint, Whitney, Anna, Alissa, Megan, Morgan, Nicholas and Olivia Sauer. Interment at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery Fulda, MN. The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda assisted the family with arrangements. Sign guestbook online at
