1934 - Richard “Dick” Chepa - 2013
Dick Chepa, the son of William J. and Delma Carlson Chepa, was born on February 5, 1934 in Fulda, Minnesota. He grew up near Fulda and attended school, graduating from the Fulda High School. Dick was united in marriage to Ardis Hudson in 1952. After their marriage they moved to San Fernando, California where he worked in the oil fields. In 1959 they moved back to Fulda to the family farm “Mink Ranch” to work with his parents. He later purchased the Skelly Bulk Fuel business and operated for a number of years. Dick then bought a farm drainage business and in the winter he hauled hay long distance. His love of the road led to his becoming an over the road operator. During this time he logged millions of miles accident free. He was married to Rita Staples on February 3, 1987. They made their home in Dundee, Minnesota for many years. Dick passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 78. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery and snowmobiling riding and racing.
Survivors include his wife Rita Chepa, Monticello, MN; four sons, Michael (Marilyn) Chepa, Lakefield, MN, William (Sandy) Chepa, Hayward, WI, Kevin (Pam) Chepa, Crawfordville, FL and Douglas (Brittany) Chepa, Stacy, MN, step-children, Linda Knuth, Long Grove, IL, Alan (Linda) Staples, Windom, MN, Randy (Mary) Staples, Slayton, MN, Cheryl (Roger) Koehn, Alexandria, MN, Cindy Huerkamp of Brooklyn Park, MN, Sue Staples, Sioux Falls, SD and Carol Staples, Elk River, MN and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Karen Swanson; infant brother and stepdaughter Peggy Smith.
