Funeral services were held at the First Reformed Church in Slayton, MN on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Barry Lang officiating.

Lawrence Noomen was born on April 6, 1926 on the family farm near Sheldon, Iowa to Wynard and Ruth Kooiker Noomen. In 1930 the family moved to a farm near Sibley, Iowa where Lawrence worked on the farm and attended country school. On October 5, 1946 Lawrence enlisted in the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge on March 8, 1948 he returned to the family farm near Sibley. On February 14, 1951 he and Ramona Scholten were married at the First Reformed Church in Sibley. Following their marriage they moved to a farm near Dovray, Minnesota. While farming, Lawrence operated a used oil trucking business and Noomen Steel and Welding. They retired in 2001 but remained on the farm until 2010 when they moved to The Meadows in Worthington, Minnesota. Ramona passed away on September 5, 2012.  Lawrence remained in Worthington until January 2013 when he became a resident of the Golden Living Center-Slayton where he passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at the age of 86. He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Slayton and served as usher and Deacon.  Lawrence enjoyed welding and tinkering in his shop and visiting with friends and neighbors. 

Survivors include his six children and their spouses: LeAnn and Les Hellewell, Newark, CA, Larry and Kari Noomen, Zephyr Cove, NV, Loretta and Francis Gervais, Currie, MN, Lynelle and Jeff Lanoue, Alexandria, MN, Lowell and Diana Noomen, Rock Springs, WY, and Loren Noomen, Champlin, MN; 16 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; two sisters: Gertrude Noomen and Gladys Beltman both of Sheldon, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Ramona; son-in-law Keith Mattison; brother Gerald Noomen and his wife Jennie; one sister Albertha Dodgen and her husband Joe; two brothers-in-law: Harvey Jacobsma and Jim Beltman.

Funeral services were held at the First Reformed Church in Slayton, MN on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Barry Lang officiating. The organist was Joan Friese. The pallbearers were Nicolas Hellewell, Travis Hellewell, Nikolas Noomen, Nathan Noomen, Christopher Gervais, Mark Gervais, John Gervais, Matthew Lanoue, Lance Noomen, Cassidy Arnold, Mitch Piekarski and Ryan Skoog. Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton, MN. Military honors accorded by Slayton American Legion Post and the Slayton VFW Post.
