1925 - Evelyn Mae Lentz - 2013
Evelyn Lentz was born on February 27, 1925 on the family farm near Reading, Minnesota to George and Josephine Virt Hindt. She grew up on the family farm and attended Country School District # 70. On July 14, 1947 she and William “Junior” Lentz were married at the St. Columba Rectory in Iona, Minnesota. Following their marriage they made their home in Iona. Evelyn worked at Red Owl in Slayton and later a Midwest Supply in Slayton. Evelyn taught ceramic classes for many years and had a shop in their home. Evelyn also helped Junior with his tree trimming business and they both worked as custodian for the Iona Presbyterian Church for many years. Junior passed away on August 9, 1998. Evelyn remained in their home until October 2011 when she moved to the Golden Living Center-Slayton. Evelyn passed away there on Friday, January 25, 2013 at the age of 87. She was a member of the Iona Presbyterian Church in Iona where she served as elder. Evelyn was a charter member of the VFW Auxiliary Galles-Piepgras #9680. She also was a member of the Iona Senior Citizens. Evelyn enjoyed square dancing, ceramics, playing cards, doing crafts, crocheting fishing and traveling. Survivors include her 10 brothers and sisters and their spouses: Josephine “Doll” Taylor, Fergus Falls, MN, Dorothy Gehlsen, Slayton, MN, Marion and Joseph Lentz, Slayton, MN, Rich Hindt, Iona, MN, Florence “Tootie” and Irvin Greger, Minneapolis, MN, Helen Vogel, Slayton, MN, Rose Knutson, Redwood Falls, MN, Lloyd Hindt, Iona, MN, Carol and Pete Kuhl, Ontario, CA and Gary and Jenni Hindt, Wabasso, MN; two sisters-in-law Phyllis Hindt, Minneapolis, MN and Joyce Hindt, Lincoln, IL and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Junior; infant daughter Valarie Kay Lentz; sister Clara Spartz and her husband Frank; brothers: Donald and George Hindt; four brothers-in-law: Bill Taylor, Howard Gehlsen, Pete Vogel and Mahlon Knutson; two sisters-in-law: JoAnn Hindt and Carol Hindt. Funeral services were held at the Iona Presbyterian Church in Iona, MN on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Deb Klaassen officiating. The organist was Cheri Paulsen with special music by Erica Huber. The pallbearers were Alvin Boock, Al Lentz, Larry Vogel, Denny Spartz, Jeff Knutson, Randy Hindt, Terry Hindt and Rodney Spartz.
