IN MEMORY OF Curtis Ernest Nelson

Memorial services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Wilmont, MN on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Keith Gallagher officiating. 
1935 - Curtis Ernest Nelson - 2013

Curtis Nelson was born on May 31, 1935 on the family farm near Hadley, Minnesota to Albert and Elizabeth Kuehl Nelson. He grew up on the family farm and attended Country School District #115 and later Slayton High School. Following school Curtis worked as a hired man in the Hadley area. In March 1954 Curtis enlisted in the United States Air Force. He acquired his GED during this time. On August 28, 1955 he married Norma Lawrence. Following their marriage they made their home on the Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, South Carolina. Following Curtis honorable discharge in November 1957 they returned to Minnesota and farmed with Norma’s parents. In 1959 they rented a farm north of Wilmont, Minnesota and farmed until 1971 when they sold the farm and moved to Wilmont. Curtis then began trucking for Sather Cookie Company and eventually bought his own truck. He retired in 1997. Following his retirement he stayed busy doing summer trucking for Zinns of Lake Park, Iowa. Curtis passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 5, 2013 surrounded by his family at the age of 77. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wilmont for over 50 years serving as Trustee and Elder. Curtis loved spending time with family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed shooting pool, hunting and fishing. 

Survivors include his wife Norma Nelson, Wilmont, MN; six children: Curtis Nelson, Sioux Falls, SD, Keeda Pfundt and her husband, Dale, Windom, MN, Steven Nelson, LaSalle, CO, Allen Nelson, Sibley, IA, Deanne Nelson von Wald, Owatonna, MN, and Daniel Nelson and Lora Swank, Wilmont, MN; eight grandchildren: Curtis and Nury, Mitchell, Carl, Abbi Jo and Eric, Brandon, Casey, Samuel, Melissa and Tyler and Emily; seven step-grandchildren: Jean, Jamie, Jed, John, Cole, Jade and Evan; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother Eldon Nelson and his wife Elvera, Hadley, MN; one sister Betty Engelkes and her husband Ernest, Slayton, MN; and one sister-in-law Sadona Pearson, Shakopee, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Lewis Nelson and one grandson Zachariah Nelson.

Memorial services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Wilmont, MN on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Keith Gallagher officiating. The pianist is Judy Cowan with special music by Jean Johnson and Del Bolluyt. Internment is at Sunset Rest Cemetery rural Rushmore, MN. Military honor accorded by the Wilmont VFW Post. In lieu of flowers memorial may be directed to Sanford Hospice at P.O. Box 652 Worthington, MN 56187. Visitation one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday. Totzke Funeral Home of Slayton is entrusted with arrangements. To send condolences visit
