Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church in Slayton, MN on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. John Marburger officiating.

Alvin Koch was born on February 14, 1918 on the family farm north of Slayton, Minnesota to William and Amanda Ehlers Koch. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. Following school Alvin farmed with his family. On June 30, 1941 he and Grace Karl were married in Worthington, Minnesota. Following their marriage they farmed north of Slayton for three years and then in 1944 they moved to a farm near Wilmont, Minnesota and farmed there for seven years before moving to a farm near Iona, Minnesota for a year. They then moved to a farm near Hadley, Minnesota and farmed until 1975 when they retired and moved to Slayton. Following his retirement from farming Alvin went to work for Paul Mettling Hatchery for 20 years and then for the Murray County Parks Department for several years. Grace passed away on June 26, 1996. Alvin remained in their home until May 2010 when he became a resident of the Golden Living Center-Slayton where he passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the age of 94. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Slayton. Alvin was there whenever there was a job to be done. In 2008 the United Methodist Church honored Alvin for his many hours of volunteering. Alvin enjoyed visiting with family and friends, gardening, fishing, playing cards, and dancing

Survivors include several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Grace; two sisters: Anna Anderson and Elsie Meger; one brother William Koch and one nephew John Anderson. 

Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church in Slayton, MN on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. John Marburger officiating. The organist was Janet Voges with special music by Bruce Dysthe. The pallbearers were Nathan Olsem, Ben Olsem, Henry Kraai, Duke Lentz, Harry Bruns and Jim Karl. The honorary pallbearers were Lonnie Leebens, Roy Swan, Darwin Johnson, and Leon Kruse. Interment is at Slayton Cemetery in Slayton, MN. To send condolences visit totzkefuneralhome.com.
