IN MEMORY OF Leila B. Helmke

Funeral services were held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Lake Wilson, MN at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2012 with the Rev. Christopher Naig officiating. 
1915 - Leila B. Helmke - 2012

Leila Helmke, the daughter of Magnus and Agnes Sorenson Bjerke, was born on September 20, 1915 in Murray County, Minnesota. She attended school in Chandler, Minnesota. Leila was united in marriage to Herman Helmke on September 26, 1932 in Spencer, Iowa.After their marriage they farmed near Lake Wilson, Minnesota. In 1966 they moved into Lake Wilson. Leila remained at her home after Herman passed away in 1996. She moved to Egan, Minnesota in 2010 to be near her family.  Leila passed away at her home in Egan on Sunday, December 23, 2012 at the age of 97. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson, MN where she was very active. Leila loved farm life. She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, sewing, music and dancing and Christmas decorating. Leila also loved entertaining, especially her coffee parties.

Survivors include her daughter Jacqueline “Jacque” (Lynn) Erickson, Central Point, OR; daughter-in-law Celeste Helmke, Lake Wilson, MN; seven grandchildren: Corinne Hillman, Don Harmsen, Darla Carter, Mark Helmke, Erik Helmke, Chris Helmke and Nicole Jenkins; eight great-grandchildren: Jason, Jenni, Kelly, Michael, Samantha, Colleen, Troy and Cody; two great-great-grandchildren: Amelia and Damien; and two half-sisters: Velva and Lona. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Donna Helmke; son Sherril Helmke; great-grandson Kyle Helmke; one sister Meda; two brothers: Everett and Virgil; one half sister Beryl and two half brothers: Daryl and Francis.

Funeral services were held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Lake Wilson, MN at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2012 with the Rev. Christopher Naig officiating. The organist was Darlene Bose. The soloist was Tom Mesner. The pallbearers were Don Harmsen, Bill Hillman, Erik Helmke, Chris Helmke, Dan Haupert and Mark Schwanedeck. Interment at Hillside Cemetery Lake Wilson, MN.
