“The Twelve Days of Christmas,” twelve o’clock high, the 12 apostles, 12 months in a year, 12 zodiac signs, and 12 inches in a foot.
The number twelve has long had significance in the world. Today marks 12-12-12, the twelfth day of the twelfth month of the twelfth year. With this rare occurrence, one is prompted to look at how often the number 12 appears in our daily lives.
A walk into the grocery store shows an abundance of twelves. There are 12 eggs in a carton, or 12 donuts in a package. A can of pop is 12 ounces, and there are 12-packs of many varieties.
In English, twelve is the largest number that has just one syllable. There are twelve keys on a telephone keypad (including # and *). There are twelve people selected for a jury.
