The MCC Rebel girls basketball team opened the season with two games this past week. The Rebels opened the season with Windom and followed it up with another against Russell-Tyler-Ruthton. The Rebels on Tuesday night hosted the Windom Area Eagles in what turned into a defensive battle. It was a low scoring game with both teams struggling at different points to do anything on the offensive end. The Rebels’ first game of the year came down to the wire and the Rebels weren’t smiling in the end.
The game started quickly for the Rebels as they would get inside of the Eagles’ defense with some well timed passes and on a couple of fast breaks. The Rebels jumped out to a 7-2 lead with shots from Jenna Ness and Taylor Schreier. MCC would get the ball to the high post area of the floor just inside of the free throw line and they took advantage by hitting jump shots. The Eagles then tighten their 2-3 zone defense and didn’t pressure the ball much at all.
