don’t rush fall N applications | |
|
By Lizabeth Stahl, an Extension Educator in Crops with University of Minnesota Extension
Corn harvest started as early as the end of August this year and is anticipated to be finished much earlier than normal this fall. If weather permits, much field work will likely be completed ahead of schedule. If a fall application of nitrogen is planned, however, be sure to check soil temperatures first. Applications made too early in the fall can result in significant nitrogen losses, which in turn can lead to reduced yields the following year and negative environmental impacts.
